Data ScientistNHS
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the NHS as a Data Scientist based in Bristol.
The ICB's Data Science team was one of the earliest teams set up within the NHS to employ specialist quantitative skills to some of the biggest healthcare problems of the day.
We use a wide variety of techniques within the operational research, mathematical modelling, statistical analysis, data science and machine learning toolkits, often working at the interface of academic research and practical application.
No problem is too big or too small, and we endeavour to apply the most appropriate solution to the problem, whatever that may be. Therefore expect a varied workload and the opportunity to learn and apply new skills. Also expect an opportunity to collaborate with universities, run externally-funded projects, and write research papers.
Flexible working options are available, subject to a required minimum 50% working in the central Bristol office. Occasional travel may be expected.
Main duties of the job
Applicants need not have experience in managing others, and experience within the NHS or wider health field is not required. Of most importance is a good grasp of applied modelling approaches underpinned by degree-level qualification(s) in a quantitative discipline.
Experience of coding in statistical languages, especially in 'R', is strongly desirable. The role-holder should have an open and inquisitive mind and be prepared to think innovatively and creatively.
