About the Department

Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK’s leading research universities, committed to improving social justice and achieving the previously unthinkable. The External Relations Directorate is responsible for raising the awareness and reputation of Queen Mary among its target audiences, and for increasing the quality and quantity of Queen Mary applicants.

The Global Engagement Office (GEO) sits within the External Relations Directorate. Its function is to recruit International Students, promote inward and outward mobility options for students looking for short term study opportunities and lead on Queen Mary’s International Partnership activity. Working closely with colleagues across External Relations and our academic Schools the Global Engagement Office is comprised of over 30 staff based in London, Beijing, Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Lahore and the USA.

On an annual basis GEO staff typically travel to over 45 countries worldwide to promote Queen Mary programmes which are delivered in London, France, Malta, China and Singapore as well as our growing portfolio of online learning. Managing enquires from point of contact through to enrolment; the team are a vital conduit between prospective students, their influencers and the institution.

About the role

This Deputy Head role sits alongside another Deputy Head, together they support the Head of International Student Recruitment in the delivery of the university’s international enabling plan which underpins the delivery of our global objectives within the Queen Mary Strategy 2030.

The Deputy Head line manages staff in London, as well as overseeing our Regional Office operations in a number of locations. The Deputy Head also leads on a number of strategic projects, such as the implementation of the agent quality framework, academic engagement, conversion projects and the integration of the CRM (Salesforce) with our international recruitment activities. This is a strategic role and does not have direct market management responsibilities.

About Queen Mary

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It’s an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
